Johannesburg - Boobs, hooters, the girls, melons, twin peaks – the list of euphemisms for breasts goes on and on.

Whatever you prefer, it’s that time of the year again when women all over the country get a legitimate reason to flaunt their assets.

And on Saturday, Tiger Tiger clubs are taking National Cleavage Day one step further this year: on Saturday night one woman will win a boob job valued at R30 000.

“All the Tiger Tiger nightclubs (Durban, Cape Town, Fourways and Pretoria) together with Strawberry Lips Tequila will be hosting the biggest National Cleavage Day event to date,” said Tiger Tiger’s marketing manager Kim Grieve.

“Tiger Tiger events are normally great fun and we like to think outside the box. One of our marketing ladies suggested the idea of giving a lady who have already decided – for their own personal reasons – to get a breast augmentation, the opportunity to do so this National Cleavage day.”

Grieve said the club’s management had made some enquiries to plastic surgeons and discovered that the average waiting list for a consultation was as long as up to one year.

“We realised this is definitely something that is in demand and could be well received for someone who already has decided they want this procedure.”

So on Saturday night, patrons are invited to drink Strawberry Lips Tequila to gain an entry card. The promotion will run from 8pm when doors open, to 1am. The club which sells the greatest volume of Strawberry Lips during that period will get to draw the winner of the boob job from the entries submitted within their establishment.

The winner will be announced on the night and the girl who wins will be allowed to choose her own doctor, date and details for the surgery.

But with an overwhelming response from interested women, came a long list of naysayers too, who criticised the club franchise’s competition on its Facebook page.

Lizey Till wrote that in a poor country, with a lot of needs, this “prize” was probably close to the end of a list of priorities.

“Let’s just take a minute and think of a few better ways for Strawberry Lips and Tiger Tiger to spend their money, shall we? (They could) send a woman to university, celebrate her unique brain, send a woman to art school, help a woman pay off student loans, enable her to start a unique business. (There are) so many more ideas.”

But other Facebook users were not as subtle. Sean Djstussy wrote: “How contradicting is this kak. ‘Unique and proud of’, yet offering to change that uniqueness. Absolutely pathetic.”

Nikki Mac Kellar was equally critical.

“Any boyfriend of mine that would ‘get drinking’ so I could change my boobs, I would dump. Apparently it’s okay to be superficial now.”

Another user, Mandy Del Rio, wrote: “Strawberry Lips, are you sure you’ll even afford to give this prize after all this backlash? People behind this, I think you’re the ones in need of surgery – brain surgery.”

But Tiger Tiger is unperturbed by the criticism.

“We have received a lot of attention regarding this event, some negative and some positive,” said Grieve.

“We respect everyone’s personal opinions regarding this. We started this promotion with no (disrespect) to anyone. We are offering this breast augmentation to someone who really wants to have it done.

“We would never force anyone to enter this competition, and I can assure you the winner will be someone who has thought long and hard about the procedure and will get proper guidance from a specialised doctor before going ahead with it,” she said.
